Being a sibling…life of Comparisons

“I wish I had a sister or a brother”

This is something I hear frequently from my friends who grew up as a single child. But there is always a trouble waiting for someone who wishes that…unjust comparisons. Especially if you are in school.

I am a twin. But unlike what I mentioned above, I had never faced a comparison with my sister until very recently. My sister used to whine about the comparing comments she always got. But I just asked her to ignore it. Until very recently there came a situation in which I also faced the same.

Recently I read an article on this topic of “comparisons”(throughout which, my sister was reading along with me). The article explained the injustice of comparisons (among siblings as well as friends), and how the victims must take it positively in order to change these comments.

Comparing someone with others, will not always make the person better than those whom they are being compared with. It can also discourage them. Not everyone discovers all their skills at a very young age itself, it takes time for some and training for others. Parents have to help them find it.

Also, if someone thinks that they are being compared with others, they should remember that they are better than others in a unique way. If someone says,ā€ he is better than you in scienceā€, then you may be better than him in extracurricular activities. Everyone is born with some skills that they have to discover on their own. For this, they have to be always positive.

Donā€™t you agree?
